13 Week Solar Thermal System's COP Chart
This chart shows the thermal system's coefficient of performance (COP). COP is the ratio of the amount of power generated divided by the amount of power used to create the generated power. An electric resistance heater has a COP of 1. A good air conditioner would have a COP of around 4 while a geothermal heat pump would be around 6. The average only includes days that the system was operating. The COP numbers plotted here are for the domestic hot water tank. When heating the radiant floor the COP is one-half what is shown here since a second pump is running (twice the power in the bottom half of the ratio) to circulate the heated water through the floor.
